“Dear reader, today I invite you to reflect with me on a powerful truth about wealth…”
Many years ago, during my early days in medicine, I learnt a profound lesson in patience and discipline, qualities that now profoundly shape my approach to financial management. I recall a time when a patient, despite diligent effort, showed little improvement. Instead of rushing or abandoning hope, I chose to observe, reflect, and adapt my methods. It was this experience that taught me the necessity of patience and adaptability, and as I moved into the realm of trading and financial management, these principles became cornerstones.
Wealth, dear reader, is not merely a collection of monetary assets. True wealth extends far beyond physical currency — it is energy, responsibility, and a mirror of our inner state. This understanding that wealth is energy allows us to perceive it through the lens of ethical management, which strengthens the foundational Five Pillars of Life:
Health is nourished through reduced stress and mindful financial choices, leading to stability that supports both body and mind.
In Relationships, trust flourishes when there is shared financial responsibility, bringing about harmony and mutual respect within the household.
Financial Wisdom grows through ethical earning and mindful spending, fostering decisions that align with one’s values and purpose.
Knowledge is expanded as we continuously learn from each financial experience, gaining skills and awareness that support wiser future decisions.
Inner Peace is cultivated by practicing detachment and contentment, allowing clarity to guide our grateful acknowledgment of what we have.
These pillars are interconnected through what I refer to as the T.E.A.R. Formula — where Thought leads to Energy, Energy guides Action, and Action determines Result. Ethical thoughts pave the way for clean financial energy, which in turn shape disciplined actions. These actions then cultivate stable and prosperous results, and when this prosperity is shared in service, it becomes sacred.
Engaging in ethical earning, along with mindful spending, is a spiritual practice that, when aligned with our values, transforms our financial world. Prosperity, when based in service and grounded in awareness, serves as a higher calling.
Let me share with you a few actionable wealth habits that I’ve found valuable:
-
Time-blocking for financial review: Regularly set aside dedicated time each week to review your finances, helping steer your course with intention and clarity.
-
Create a monthly charity or service-based budget: Devote a portion of your finances to service, fostering a practice of giving and a spirit of generosity.
-
Maintain a gratitude ledger for earnings and expenses: Reflecting on each transaction with gratitude helps shift perspective from scarcity to abundance.
-
Practice mindful spending by pausing before purchases: Assess the true necessity of each potential buy, distinguishing between needs and wants to enhance decision-making.
-
Separate needs from wants: Clearly define what is essential and what is desirable to optimize spending and prevent impulse purchases.
Throughout my life, whether in trading, medicine, or family endeavors, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of aligning financial practices with ethical and spiritual tenets. It requires discipline, responsibility, faith, and often, detachment — especially in moments of uncertainty or loss.
To conclude, let me share a resonant Sai Baba quote: “Money comes and goes; morality comes and grows.” Such wisdom underscores the transient nature of material wealth compared to the enduring growth of moral and spiritual principles.
