daily T.E.A.R. check

In the quiet corridors of the hospital, where I have spent many years practicing medicine, I have often found moments of profound reflection. There was a time when a young child, frail and unwell, looked up at me with a smile that could light up the darkest room. In that moment, her simple, unconditional trust in my care reminded me of the immense power of selfless service. This realization became my introduction to the spiritual and practical essence of Karma Yoga—the path of selfless action.

As I journey through life as a doctor, a parent, and a spiritual seeker, I have come to understand that our inner world shapes the karma we generate. When we consider the T.E.A.R. Formula—Thought leading to Energy, which transforms into Action, and culminates in Result—we can appreciate the flow of karma in our lives. Pure thoughts, imbued with love and kindness, cultivate an energy that is uplifting. This energy manifests in our actions as compassion and purpose, leading to results that nourish and purify the soul.

In the teachings inspired by Sai philosophy, right emotion elevates ordinary karma into seva, or selfless service. By infusing our actions with love, every task becomes sacred and transformative. Karma Yoga fortifies the Five Pillars of Success in Life, offering a holistic approach to personal growth and fulfillment.

Health flourishes through emotional balance and vitality, reducing stress and bringing joy to everyday living. When we engage in selfless action, we harness compassion and empathy, strengthening our Relationships. These actions are grounded in Financial Wisdomprompting contentment and mindful earning. With a heart dedicated to selfless service, we naturally pursue Knowledge with clarity and humility.

Finally, the Inner Peaceakin to the Adi Lakshmi Principle, emerges through silence, equanimity, and surrender. As the noise of expectation fades, a profound freedom and presence are born from within.

When we enact Karma Yoga, without seeking personal gain, each of these pillars becomes robust. We align with dharma and embody a higher truth, finding expansion of the heart and deep inner purification.

Practically speaking, Karma Yoga can be embraced through simple daily habits:

  • Help at least one person consciously each day, no matter how small the act.
  • Perform every duty with intention, gratitude, and love, transforming it into a humble offering.
  • Before starting any work, engage in a silent inner offering, dedicating the effort to a higher purpose.
  • Conduct small acts of kindness without expectation, allowing joy to flow through giving.
  • Transform daily responsibilities into acts of worship, seeing the divine in the mundane.

I recall an instance where a seemingly insignificant act held great meaning. A colleague was overwhelmed one afternoon, and I offered to assist them with their duties. Though simple, their gratitude illuminated my day, a testament to how small acts of selflessness ripple outwards, touching lives in unforeseen ways.

Another memorable moment was with a patient who, in their vulnerability, taught me the essence of humility and gratitude. In serving them with an open heart, I found myself learning the profound lesson of true empathy and connection.

Sai Baba once said, “The best way to serve God is to love and serve all and see God in everyone.” This encapsulates the heart of Karma Yoga—living with purpose and offering ourselves in service to others.
