reading habit

To the beautiful soul reading this, may this reflection bring clarity and peace as we embark on a journey of understanding together.

When I first began my career as a doctor, there was a moment that profoundly altered how I perceived learning and illuminated my path. It was during a particularly challenging time in my practice. One evening, as I sat in contemplation after an exhausting day at the hospital, a simple realization dawned upon me—knowledge is not merely the accumulation of data, but a guiding light. This light brings clarity to our decisions, deepens our understanding of life, and infuses each day with purpose.

Reflecting on this truth, today I find myself often turning to the guiding theme: Knowledge is light — it illuminates life, expands consciousness, strengthens purpose, and brings clarity to every path we walk. In its purest form, knowledge guides us in nurturing the Five Pillars of Life.

Starting with Health, knowledge empowers us to understand our bodies, manage our emotions, and cultivate well-being. It teaches us to recognize the signals our body sends and the importance of holistic health practices. In Relationships, knowledge fosters empathy and wise decisions, allowing us to build meaningful, supportive connections with others. Financial Wisdom is born of informed choices, clarity, and mindful earning, shaping a secure and balanced life. The pillar of Knowledge (Self-learning) involves an ever-growing curiosity, the pursuit of skills, and deep reflection, bringing profound wisdom. Lastly, Inner Peace arises from the awareness and centered living made possible through contemplation and silence.

Through these pillars, we realize that knowledge is more than just information; it is the force of transformation and responsibility. Each new piece of understanding becomes a gentle spark when we engage in the T.E.A.R. Formula:

Thought: A new idea enters the mind, Energy: The idea energizes curiosity and motivation, Action: We apply what we learn in our daily lives, and the Result: Growth, clarity, success, and inner evolution manifest fully.

This leads us to reflect on Sai Baba’s timeless teaching: “The end of education is character.” Without character, knowledge becomes directionless. But knowledge with character transforms into a divine light that paves the way for a meaningful existence.

How, then, can we weave learning into the fabric of our daily lives? Here are a few habits that I have found transformative:

1. Maintain a reflection journal: Write about what you learn and feel each day. 2. Keep an application diary: Note how lessons learned each day are applied. 3. Practice silence before study: Calm your mind to enhance your focus. 4. Review the day’s insights: Spend a moment each evening to ponder the day’s knowledge. 5. Dedicate time for skill-building or reading: Constantly enhance your skills through regular learning. 6. Learn through service and observation: Often wisdom comes from helping others and simply watching the world around you.

As we nurture these practices, we honor the profound relationship between knowledge and character, inspiring ourselves and those around us to live in the light of understanding and compassion.

In the words of Sai Baba: “Seek knowledge and self-discipline, for they purify the heart and enrich the mind.”
