“Dear reader, today I invite you to reflect with me on a powerful truth about wealth…”
As a young doctor embarking on my medical journey, the weight of responsibility felt both daunting and exhilarating. I vividly remember the long, sleepless nights in the hospital where I would encounter human suffering, resilience, and the profound value of life. One particular night, I attended to a patient whose journey to recovery was as much a matter of faith and personal choice as it was of medicine. This experience taught me invaluable lessons about patience and detachment—qualities that have served me well in every aspect of life, including financial management and trading.
This leads me to a deeper truth I’ve come to cherish: wealth is not just money. It is energy, responsibility, and a reflection of our inner state. The way we manage our finances is intimately tied to our overall well-being, much like the care we must take with our health or nurture in our relationships. Ethical financial management, therefore, strengthens what I consider the Five Pillars of Life:
- Health: By reducing stress and fostering stability through mindful choices, we align our financial health with our overall wellness.
- Relationships: Ethical financial practices cultivate trust, encourage shared responsibility, and promote harmony in our personal and professional lives.
- Financial Wisdom: Making deliberate choices about earning and spending ethically reflects our values and strengthens our decision-making skills.
- Knowledge: Our financial journey offers countless lessons, enhancing our awareness and skills through lived experiences.
- Inner Peace: Detachment from materialism, contentment with what we have, and clarity in our intentions enrich our spiritual fulfillment and gratitude.
To me, these pillars are the foundation of ethical wealth management and resonate deeply with the T.E.A.R. Formula—Thought → Energy → Action → Result. Ethical thoughts cultivate clean financial energy, which in turn shapes disciplined actions. Such actions lead to stable and prosperous results. When prosperity is shared in service, it transforms wealth into something sacred.
In this light, ethical earning, mindful spending, and service-based prosperity become spiritual practices, beautifully aligned with our values and awareness. Here are some actionable wealth habits that I’ve found transformative on this path:
- Time-blocking for Financial Review: Setting aside specific times to review my finances helps me understand my patterns and make mindful adjustments.
- Monthly Charity Budget: By dedicating a portion of my income to service, I remind myself of the broader impact money can have beyond my immediate needs.
- Gratitude Ledger: Maintaining a ledger for earnings and expenses fosters gratitude and reflects on the wealth in my life.
- Mindful Spending: Pausing before purchasing allows me to distinguish between genuine needs and impulsive wants.
- Tracking Emotional Triggers: Understanding emotions behind financial decisions helps avoid pitfalls and nurture financial discipline.
In my trading experiences and even in my family life, these principles have guided me, teaching discipline, responsibility, faith, and detachment. Trading has shown me that the market is a reflection of life—volatile yet abundant for those who practice patience and ethical decision-making.
I leave you with the profound wisdom of Sai Baba: “Money comes and goes; morality comes and grows.” This encapsulates the essence of viewing wealth as a tool for growth, service, and ethical living.
